Czech Republic FM says Ukraine’s war resolution is witnessing progress

(MENAFN) Officials in the Czech Republic have expressed optimism that the war in Ukraine is moving closer to a diplomatic resolution. Foreign Minister Petr Macinka emphasized that recent developments point to advancing negotiations, noting that Ukraine has reportedly made significant concessions in recent days, while the next step now rests with Russia.

“I am glad that the world is finally moving toward a diplomatic solution, which the Czech government also supports,” Macinka said, citing US President Donald Trump’s role as a key mediator capable of facilitating talks between the two sides. He also warned that continued progress will require a constructive approach from all parties, noting that Trump’s patience “is not infinite.”

Macinka suggested that robust and realistic Western security guarantees could provide Ukraine with an effective alternative to NATO membership, potentially helping to prevent future conflicts with Russia.

The remarks came following a meeting in the United States between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Trump on Sunday. The US president described the discussions as “wonderful,” acknowledging that only one or two contentious issues remain before a potential peace agreement.

Radek Vondracek, chairman of the Czech parliament’s foreign affairs committee, expressed cautious optimism, stating there is “real hope for real peace” and praising Trump’s efforts. Writing on social media, Vondracek highlighted the US president’s commitment, saying he is “tirelessly negotiating” to end the war.

Despite progress, territorial disputes continue to pose challenges, including Russia’s insistence that Ukraine relinquish control over all of the Donbas region, including areas not fully under Moscow’s control militarily.
